Description
Here at Scout Motors, we're carrying forward the heritage of one of the most iconic American vehicles in history. A vehicle dating back to 1960. One that forged the path for future generations of rugged SUVs and trucks and will do so once again.
But Scout is more than just a brand, it’s a legacy steeped in a culture of exploration, caretaking, and hard work.
The Scout brand is all about respect. Respect for the past and the future by taking an iconic American brand that hasn’t been around for a while, electrifying it, digitizing it, and loading it with American innovation. Respect for communities by creating a company that stands for its people and its customers. Respect for both work and play, with vehicles that are equally at home at a camp site, a job site, or on a Tuesday commute. And respect for our customers by developing two powertrains that meet their requirements — an all-electric powertrain as well as the Harvester™ range extender powertrain which includes a built-in gas-powered generator with an estimated 500 miles of combined range.
At Scout Motors, we empower our talented, inclusive, and entrepreneurial teams to innovate. What makes a Scout employee? Someone who is a visionary and a leader, who seeks new paths and shares lessons learned. A knowledgeable doer who collaborates across the company to build better. A go-getter with unrivaled passion.

About this role
Scout Motors is building electric and extended-range pickup trucks and SUVs, and this role puts you at the center of automating and intelligizing their business operations. You'll design and deploy AI workflows using n8n, large language models, and agentic frameworks—connecting these systems to real business processes and data platforms across the company. The work spans the full spectrum of modern AI engineering: building intelligent agents that reason autonomously, creating ML pipelines for forecasting, developing chatbots and interactive dashboards with Streamlit, implementing semantic search with vector databases, and ensuring everything meets compliance and security standards.
This position demands strong technical depth. You'll need at least four years of hands-on experience with n8n and LLM-based automation, proven success designing and deploying ML models, solid Python skills, and proficiency with tools like OpenAI, Anthropic, and vector databases like Pinecone. Familiarity with infrastructure as code and OpenWebUI is expected. Beyond the technical toolkit, Scout values problem-solvers who communicate clearly, collaborate across teams, and stay grounded—people who respect colleagues and can discuss tradeoffs thoughtfully rather than insisting on one right answer.
The role is based in Columbia, South Carolina (or Charlotte, North Carolina), with an expectation of four to five days per week in the office and occasional travel for company events. The salary range is $120,000 to $145,000, with competitive benefits including medical, dental, vision coverage, a 401(k) match with immediate vesting, 20 days of planned PTO annually, and up to 16 weeks of paid parental leave. This is a chance to build something new within an established brand, though the fast-paced, high-growth environment means comfort with change and flexibility are essential.
