A day in the life (Responsibilities)
- Design, build and maintain high performing, flexible, and scalable solutions that help restaurants deliver a best-in-class guest experience
- Ship features end-to-end, from design through rollout, monitoring for success and iterating based on real-world use
- Be an awesome teammate who's all in on collaboration and collective success
- Collaborate closely with Product, Design and Engineering stakeholders
- Leverage cutting edge AI tools to enhance your development workflow, improve velocity, and help pioneer new approaches to building - contributing to a culture of innovation and productivity across the team.
- Mentor less experienced engineers and up-level the team through design reviews, constructive feedback, and agent-assisted engineering practices
What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)
- 5+ years of backend/full-stack experience, delivering products that drive impact
- Ability to read and integrate with frontend applications; showing curiosity to work across the stack when needed
- Excited about AI-assisted development and LLM-based agents (Claude Code or similar), and interested in pioneering new workflows with the team
- Effectively works with ambiguity, agile delivery, and shipping usable software incrementally
- Passionate about making users happy and seeing people use your product in the wild
- Strong on software development fundamentals — code quality, unit tests, clean code — and open to evolving your workflow with AI tooling
- Strong collaboration skills: you communicate clearly with engineers, product, and business stakeholders, and adapt technical detail to the audience
- Curiosity and a growth mindset: you seek feedback, embrace change, and want to grow toward broader ownership

**This is a hybrid role requiring in-office collaboration two days per week in our Dublin office.**

About this role
Toast's IQ Grow team is building AI-powered marketing solutions that help restaurants engage customers and grow their businesses. As a Senior Software Engineer, you'd own the full lifecycle of features—from design through deployment and iteration—working across a stack of Java, Kotlin, React, and AI-assisted development tools. The role balances technical depth with product thinking, requiring you to ship incrementally in a fast-moving space while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating closely with product, design, and business stakeholders.
You'll need at least five years of backend or full-stack experience with a track record of shipping products that matter. The team is genuinely excited about AI-assisted development and LLM-based agents like Claude Code, and they're looking for someone who's curious about pioneering new workflows rather than just adopting tools. Strong fundamentals in code quality and testing are non-negotiable, but the expectation is that you'll evolve your approach as AI tooling becomes part of daily work. You should be comfortable working with ambiguity, communicating across technical and non-technical audiences, and genuinely caring about how your work lands with real users.
The position is hybrid, based in Dublin, with two days per week in the office. This is a full-time role on a high-ownership team solving complex problems at the intersection of AI and restaurant technology.
