About this role
Horrocks is looking for a Regional Lead – Rail Engineer to direct the growth and execution of its rail practice across multiple U.S. regions from a Seattle-based remote position. You would combine hands-on technical expertise in railroad engineering—covering track design, grade separations, at-grade crossings, and related infrastructure—with strategic leadership responsibilities. This means overseeing project delivery across a regional portfolio, mentoring engineers and designers across multiple offices, building and maintaining relationships with railroad operators and public agencies, and driving business development efforts including proposals and industry engagement.
The role demands at least 10 years in rail or transportation infrastructure engineering, a PE license, and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field. You should have a track record leading multidisciplinary teams and managing complex client relationships, along with solid knowledge of design standards, CAD software, and federal and state railroad regulations. Success here requires balancing independent technical judgment with collaborative leadership—you'll coordinate across internal teams, external agencies in multiple states, and railroad partners to ensure quality and compliance.
Horrocks offers a competitive salary between $140,000 and $200,000, comprehensive health coverage, generous paid time off, a 401(k) match of 50% up to 6%, professional development support, and paid professional organization memberships. The position involves periodic regional travel for client meetings, site visits, and industry events.
