About this role

Horrocks is looking for a seasoned rail engineer to lead and expand their railroad practice across multiple U.S. regions from a remote base in Tampa. You'd own the technical and strategic direction of rail projects ranging from industrial track and terminals to mainline work and grade-separated structures, while coordinating with railroad operators, DOT agencies, and municipal partners. This role blends hands-on engineering expertise with business development and team leadership—you'd mentor junior staff across multiple offices, support proposal efforts, and drive standardization of practices company-wide.

The position requires at least 10 years in rail or railroad infrastructure engineering, a PE license, and a civil engineering degree. You should be comfortable managing multidisciplinary teams, navigating complex regulatory environments across states, and serving as the senior technical voice on design standards for track geometry, crossings, and drainage. Strong client relationship skills and willingness to travel regionally for site visits and industry events are essential. Horrocks offers a competitive salary between $140,000 and $200,000, along with comprehensive health coverage, generous PTO, a 401(k) match, and support for professional development and licensure maintenance.
