About this role
Horrocks is looking for a seasoned rail engineer to lead and expand its railroad engineering practice across multiple U.S. regions from a Dallas-based remote position. You would combine hands-on technical expertise with strategic leadership, overseeing the planning and delivery of diverse rail projects—from industrial track and terminals to mainline work and grade-separated structures—while managing relationships with railroad operators, public agencies, and internal teams across multiple offices. The role demands someone with at least 10 years of rail and transportation infrastructure experience, a PE license, and proven ability to mentor engineers and drive business development.
Success in this position requires balancing technical depth with people leadership. You'll serve as a senior advisor on rail design and standards, coordinate complex multi-agency compliance work, and champion quality assurance practices across projects. Equally important is your capacity to build client partnerships, support proposal efforts, and contribute to industry visibility. The position involves periodic regional travel for site visits, client meetings, and conferences.
Horrocks offers a competitive salary of $140,000 to $200,000, comprehensive health and disability coverage, strong paid time off, a 401(k) match, and support for professional development and licensure. The remote arrangement provides flexibility while the regional scope offers substantial scope for impact and growth within an established engineering firm.
