About this role
Horrocks is looking for a Regional Lead – Rail Engineer to direct the growth and execution of its rail practice across multiple U.S. regions from a remote base in Atlanta. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with business development and team management, requiring someone with at least 10 years of railroad engineering experience and a PE license. You would oversee the planning and delivery of diverse rail projects—from industrial track and terminals to mainline work and grade-separated structures—while coordinating with railroad operators, DOT agencies, and municipal partners across state lines.
Beyond project delivery, the position demands strategic leadership: mentoring engineers across multiple offices, building client and industry relationships, supporting proposal development and pursuit activities, and driving standardization of the company's rail engineering practices. You'll serve as a senior technical resource on design, grading, and infrastructure matters, and collaborate with project managers on staffing, resource planning, and quality assurance. The role involves periodic regional travel for client meetings, site visits, and industry events.
The position offers a salary range of $140,000 to $200,000, along with medical, dental, vision, life and disability coverage, generous paid time off, a 401(k) with 50% match up to 6%, professional development support, and paid professional organization membership and licensure. This is a full-time remote role suited to an experienced rail engineer ready to lead at a regional scale while maintaining direct technical involvement.
