About this role
American Veterinary Group's UrgentVet clinic in West Des Moines operates as an after-hours urgent care bridge for dogs and cats, handling cases like wounds, infections, and digestive issues without emergency clinic pricing. As a Senior Veterinary Assistant, you'd work in a fully digital, modern facility equipped with cloud-based records, digital x-ray, and IDEXX lab systems, supporting a team that moves quickly through a steady flow of patients.
The role demands hands-on clinical skills—phlebotomy, catheter placement, lab work, and drug calculations—alongside animal handling and restraint. You'll also manage facility upkeep and client education. This is a full-time position requiring flexibility around evenings, weekends, and holidays, plus the physical ability to lift 40 pounds regularly. Prior hospital experience with animals and customer service background are expected.
The position suits someone energetic and organized who thrives in fast-paced environments and wants genuine clinical responsibility. The company offers solid benefits including health coverage, 401k match, generous PTO, paid parental leave, tuition assistance for technician certification, and discounted veterinary care—plus a dedicated work-life balance day off.
