About this role

American Veterinary Group's UrgentVet operates after-hours urgent care clinics in West Des Moines, filling the gap between daytime general practice and full emergency services. You'd work solo shifts treating common urgent cases—wound management, ear infections, vomiting and diarrhea, and euthanasia—in a paperless, modern facility equipped with digital x-ray, cloud-based EMR, and full IDEXX lab capabilities. This is urgent care only, with no wellness visits or abdominal surgeries, allowing you to focus on acute presentations in a streamlined environment.

The role calls for a licensed DVM or VMD with an active state license (or ability to obtain one). You'll manage a varying caseload during swing and second shifts, collaborate with your clinical team and leadership, and help develop support staff through the practice's LevelUp training program. The clinic emphasizes a Fear Free, feline-friendly approach and relationship-based care with both clients and your team.

The position offers substantial support: paid CE days and allowance, covered licensing fees and professional dues, professional liability insurance, personalized one-on-one mentorship, and internal veterinarian collaboration. Benefits include three weeks PTO, paid parental and maternity leave, a work/life balance day off annually, healthcare and retirement matching, and significantly discounted personal veterinary care. Compensation is flexible, and there's optional Pro-Sal with no negative accrual.
