Description
SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today, SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of making life multiplanetary and expanding consciousness to the stars.
SpaceXSI is building Super Intelligence to help humanity understand the universe. Our teams are building the full Super Intelligence stack: from our Colossus supercomputers, to Grok models, to our suite of applications, including Grok Bot, Grok Build, Grok Imagine, Grok Voice, and X. We're creating a powerful flywheel where more compute trains better models, better models power more useful products, and what we learn from people using those products shapes what we build next.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are hiring Journeyman Electricians to join SpaceXSI's internal construction team supporting the rapid build-out of our data centers. This is a traveling role — you will mobilize with project teams to active construction sites, install and commission 480 V electrical systems, and move with the work as new facilities come online.
You will work on 480 V power distribution, busway, PDUs, UPS, main switchboards, grounding, lighting, and process power. This is a construction and commissioning role: pull, land, and turn over new 480 V equipment from issued-for-construction drawings. It is not a facilities-maintenance or operating-plant role.
This is an hourly position with overtime. Expect 80% or more travel on a rotation, with per diem.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Travel with internal construction and electrical teams to project sites to install, terminate, and test 480 V electrical systems, including switchboards, busway, PDUs, UPS, panelboards, generators, conduit, cable tray, feeders, and grounding.
- Install, terminate, torque, and dress 480 V distribution equipment and associated feeders.
- Install grounding, bonding, and equipment grounding electrode systems per drawings and the NEC.
- Support commissioning activities, including point-to-point checks, functional testing, megger testing, and first energization of 480 V systems.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, one-line diagrams, and specifications; produce as-builts and test records.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, and SpaceXSI safety and quality standards, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) and arc-flash protocols.
- Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and operations teams to deliver projects on time with zero incidents.
- Participate in constructability reviews and provide field feedback to improve designs.
- Mobilize quickly between project locations as construction phases and priorities shift.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current state journeyman electrician license (Tennessee or Mississippi preferred, or equivalent state journeyman license with the ability to obtain TN or MS).
- 5+ years of industrial or data center electrical construction installing 480 V gear (switchboards, busway, PDUs, UPS, main switchboards).
- Demonstrated 480 V installation, termination, and torque of gear.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, one-lines, and schematics.
- Proficiency with electrical test equipment (multimeter, megger, torque wrench).
- Working knowledge of NFPA 70E and lockout/tagout (LOTO).
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and work in industrial environments with PPE.
- Hourly position with overtime; willingness to work nights, weekends, and extended shifts during construction and energization.
- Ability and willingness to travel 80% or more on a construction rotation; per diem and/or housing provided while on site.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Tennessee or Mississippi journeyman electrician license.
- Experience with data center or hyperscale 480 V power infrastructure (redundant UPS, generators, busway systems).
- Prior work on large-scale, multi-site construction projects that required frequent travel.
- Master electrician license.
- OSHA 30 or equivalent construction safety training in addition to NFPA 70E.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Schedule varies depending on site operational needs; frequent overtime and weekend support is required.
- Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs., and working on ladders/lifts at elevated heights.
- Ability to work in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, noise, heat, cold, and rain.
- Ability to rapidly change roles/responsibilities while working in a high-paced, challenging work environment.
- Stand: up to 6 hours per day.
- Sit: up to 3 hours per day.
- Push/Pull: up to 75 lbs. (unassisted) 1–2 hours per day.
- Overhead reach: up to 3 hours per day.
- Walk: up to 3 hours per day.
- Lift/Carry: up to 50 lbs. (unassisted) 1–2 hours per day.

About this role
SpaceXAI is building out data center infrastructure at scale, and they need experienced journeyman electricians to install and commission the high-voltage electrical systems that power these facilities. This is a construction and commissioning role, not maintenance—you'll be pulling, terminating, testing, and energizing 480 V equipment including switchboards, busway, PDUs, UPS systems, and associated distribution gear from issued-for-construction drawings. The work demands solid technical skills: reading one-lines and schematics, torquing connections to spec, megger testing, and ensuring compliance with NEC and NFPA 70E standards throughout.
The role is explicitly a traveling position. You'll mobilize with project teams to active construction sites on an 80%-plus travel rotation, moving between locations as new facilities come online. Per diem and housing are provided while on site. The schedule is driven by construction and energization timelines, which means frequent overtime, nights, and weekends. This suits someone who wants field-intensive work and can adapt quickly to shifting priorities and high-paced environments.
You'll need a current journeyman license from Tennessee or Mississippi (or equivalent with ability to obtain one), plus at least five years of hands-on experience installing 480 V industrial or data center electrical systems. Familiarity with test equipment, LOTO protocols, and the physical demands of construction work—climbing, lifting 50+ lbs, working in cramped spaces—are baseline expectations. A master's license or OSHA 30 training would strengthen your candidacy, and prior experience on large multi-site projects requiring travel is preferred.
