About this role

DLR Group's Charlotte studio is hiring a structural engineering intern for summer 2027 (May 18–August 6), offering a paid, full-time role within their Emerging Professional Experience program. You'll work alongside licensed structural engineers on real projects—from early design through construction documents and site visits—using Revit to develop structural systems for buildings of varying complexity. The work is hands-on and collaborative; you'll attend design meetings, coordinate with architects and other disciplines, and contribute directly to an integrated team environment.

The program balances project work with structured mentorship and weekly learning sessions covering design culture, sustainability, technology, and career development. You'll gain exposure to how different disciplines work together and hear from leaders across the firm. To qualify, you need at least one year completed in an ABET-accredited structural, civil, or architectural engineering program and experience or interest in Revit BIM workflows. The role is based in Charlotte and requires in-office attendance (not remote, despite initial mention). U.S. work authorization is required; visa sponsorship is not available.

This internship suits students ready to apply classroom knowledge to real structural design work and who value mentorship and cross-disciplinary collaboration. If you're interested in how buildings are engineered and want to see the full lifecycle of a project, this is a solid foundation for that experience.
