YOUR MISSION
The Corporate Counsel, IP will serve as True Anomaly's primary in-house legal authority on intellectual property, owning the maturation and execution of the company's IP strategy — including how we identify, capture, protect, and leverage technology across both our hardware and software. This role reports to the Managing Counsel and is a key member of a small, collaborative legal department.
Intellectual property is the core of this role. You will lead the company's IP program, partnering closely with engineering, marketing, product, program management, business development, and mission teams to identify proprietary innovations and implement appropriate protections the company’s IP portfolios, negotiate and manage licenses, establish the practical processes that turn day-to-day engineering into defensible IP, and serve as the go-to resource for stakeholders across the company on strategy, ownership, and risk.
Beyond IP, you will support general corporate legal functions — reviewing and negotiating contracts, supporting transactional and financing needs, advising internal clients, and contributing to the legal department’s broader workload. The ideal candidate is energized by the opportunity to own and mature a specialized strategic function while also operating as a versatile member of a lean legal team.

About this role
True Anomaly is building autonomous spacecraft and space-based capabilities for national security, and this temporary in-house role puts you at the center of protecting what makes their technology defensible. As Corporate Counsel for IP, you'd own the full lifecycle of the company's intellectual property strategy—from invention identification and patent prosecution through trade secret protection, licensing negotiations, and advising engineering teams on what they can and cannot do with their creations. The position reports to Managing Counsel in a small legal department, so you'd have significant autonomy to shape how the company captures and leverages its innovations across hardware and software.
Beyond IP strategy, you'd handle general corporate legal work: drafting and negotiating customer agreements, technology licenses, vendor contracts, and NDAs; advising internal stakeholders on legal risks; and supporting export compliance on ITAR and technical data issues. This is a role for someone who thrives owning a specialized function while staying versatile enough to pitch in across a lean team's broader workload. You'd need 3–7 years of legal experience (ideally mixing law firm and in-house), with demonstrated competence in patents, trade secrets, software licensing, and commercial contracts—and the ability to communicate complex legal concepts to technical teams.
The position is based in Denver and requires in-office presence. Compensation ranges from $140,000 to $205,000, with equity participation, comprehensive healthcare, flexible time off, and other standard benefits. Note that this is a temporary role, so the typical equity and benefits disclaimers for fixed-term positions apply.
