About this role

Waggoner Engineering is looking for a Level 2 Construction Engineering and Inspection professional to work on transportation projects across Alabama, primarily in the Birmingham or Huntsville area. You'll conduct independent field inspections on major construction activities, perform surveying and layout work, verify compliance with specifications and codes, and manage testing and quality assurance documentation. The role requires you to work under general supervision, exercise judgment in the field, and occasionally train newer staff members.

The position calls for at least five years of CEI experience on ALDOT projects, or a civil engineering degree plus one year of relevant field work. You'll need strong written communication skills, the ability to work independently, and physical capability to handle outdoor conditions—heat, cold, traffic, and heavy equipment—sometimes requiring overnight travel. Several certifications are expected, including ACI and ALDOT Concrete Technician credentials and ALDOT Asphalt Roadway Technician certification. Additional ALDOT and safety certifications are preferred.

This is a full-time, in-office role based in Huntsville with a salary range of $25,000–$36,000. Waggoner Engineering offers competitive health benefits, an incentive program, career development opportunities, and flexible scheduling. The work is demanding and field-intensive, suited to someone with solid transportation construction inspection experience who can manage multiple technical responsibilities independently.
