About the Role

We are looking for an Onboard Infrastructure Engineer to join our Autonomous Driving team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the onboard infrastructure that supports autonomous vehicle systems, ensuring reliable communication, data management, and system integration.

You would work on critical infrastructure projects for autonomous driving systems, such as implementing middleware/ROS core functionalities, conducting optimizations to reduce latency and improving system determinism. You will play a critical role in designing and optimizing the architecture that handles real-time data from sensors and computing hardware. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of hardware, software, and real-world autonomous driving technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement onboard infrastructure modules (sensor driver, health management) to support real-time autonomous driving applications, ensuring computing efficiency, and SW reliability in resource demanding environments.
  • Monitor system performance and implement tools for diagnostics, logging, and recovery to ensure stable vehicle operations.
  • Optimize the deployment of autonomous driving software to embedded systems and onboard computing platforms.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 2+ years of experience, in Computer Science or a related field.
  • A strong willingness to develop computationally efficient code with consistently low runtime variance
  • Proficiency in C/C++ programming
  • Write robust, reliable codes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experiences in Sensor SW development
  • Experience with ROS (Robot Operating System), or similar middleware for robotics and autonomous systems.
  • 3+ years of experience in onboard infrastructure, embedded systems, or systems engineering.
  • Experience with autonomous driving technologies or similar high-performance computing systems
  • Experience with RTOS (Real-time Operating System)
  • Experience with Nvidia Drive Products (Orin/Thor)

About this role

Bot Auto is developing autonomous trucks, and this role sits at the core of making them work reliably in the real world. As an Onboard Infrastructure Engineer, you would own the software systems that manage sensor data, compute resources, and communication on the vehicle itself—the plumbing that lets autonomous driving algorithms actually run safely and predictably on hardware with real constraints.

The work spans middleware implementation (including ROS core functionality), latency optimization, and system diagnostics. You'd design sensor drivers and health management modules, monitor vehicle performance, and tune how autonomous driving software deploys to embedded platforms. This demands strong C/C++ skills and a genuine commitment to writing efficient, deterministic code that works reliably under pressure. The role requires either a Bachelor's degree with five years of systems-level experience or a Master's with two years; prior exposure to ROS, real-time operating systems, or embedded infrastructure is valuable.

If you've built systems that had to be both fast and predictable, and you're drawn to the specific challenge of making autonomous vehicles operationally sound, this is a focused technical role in a startup environment with real hardware consequences. The position is full-time and based in Houston.
