Description
SUMMARY
GCM Grosvenor is seeking a Product Engineer with professional investment experience to join the Technology Product & Strategy team supporting our Investments organization.
This role combines the business partnership of a strong Business Analyst with hands-on solution delivery. The Product Engineer takes prioritized opportunities and strategic direction from the Product Manager, then works directly with investment professionals to understand the detailed requirements and shape practical solutions. They build and iterate on those solutions using the firm’s AI-enabled tools and technology platform, while partnering with Engineering to identify and enhance reusable platform capabilities that better support business needs.
The initial focus will be on partnering across our five investment strategy groups on AI-augmented research solutions then moving into portfolio construction analytics and modeling.
As an onsite/hybrid employee, you are expected to be in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday.
WHO YOU ARE
- You've spent time inside investment research, portfolio management, or a related function – you know what a diligence process or portfolio review actually looks like, not just the vocabulary.
- Manual, repetitive process work – disconnected spreadsheets, manual data pulls, copy-paste – bugs you enough that you go build a better way instead of just enduring it.
- You've used whatever tools you had access to automate or improve your own work and want to do more of it.
- You're excited about applying AI and modern tooling to real investment problems and want hands-on time building with it – no prior experience with specific tools required, just the interest to learn fast.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partner with investment professionals to surface real business problems and translate priorities into solutions – feeding findings back to the Product Manager to sharpen direction as understanding deepens.
- Build and iterate fast using the firm's AI-enabled tooling, favoring reusable platform capabilities over custom engineering – and know when a pilot needs production rigor and hand it to Engineering.
- Spot the patterns worth turning into reusable platform capabilities.
- Own solutions through rollout: stakeholder coordination, training, adoption.
EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- 2+ years in investment management, investment research, portfolio management, or a related investment role.
It is expected that the hourly range for this Chicago based position will be $77-90/hour. Actual hourly range may vary based on factors such as individual's experience, skills, and qualifications for the role.

About this role
GCM Grosvenor's Technology Product & Strategy team is looking for someone who bridges investment operations and hands-on product building. You'd partner directly with investment professionals across five strategy groups to identify friction points—manual processes, disconnected data workflows, repetitive tasks—then build solutions using the firm's AI-enabled platform. The role starts with AI-augmented research tools and expands into portfolio analytics and modeling. You're expected in the Chicago office Tuesdays through Thursdays.
This role suits someone with 2+ years inside investment research, portfolio management, or a related function who has already felt the friction of manual work enough to automate it. You don't need prior experience with specific tools, but you do need genuine interest in learning AI and modern technology to solve real investment problems. The work sits between business analysis and engineering: you'll translate what investment teams actually need into practical solutions, iterate quickly, spot patterns worth scaling into platform capabilities, and own rollout through training and adoption.
The position is full-time, hybrid, with a salary range of $77–90 per hour depending on experience and qualifications. GCM Grosvenor manages approximately $97 billion in assets across alternatives and offers standard benefits including healthcare, retirement plans, paid time off, and parental leave.
