Practice quality medicine, explore your clinical interests, and join a team that values your time.
Suffield Veterinary Hospital is seeking a full-time veterinarian to join our five-doctor general practice. Established in 1983, our hospital provides comprehensive medical, surgical, and dental care for dogs, cats, and exotic pets, including rabbits, ferrets, and birds. Our doctors bring interests in dentistry, exotics, and behavior, creating an environment where you can collaborate with colleagues while enjoying a varied caseload.
We are looking for a kind, collaborative veterinarian who enjoys building lasting client relationships and supporting the human-animal bond. Experienced veterinarians and strong new graduates are welcome to apply. New graduates should bring a solid clinical foundation, confidence in their foundational skills, and a proactive approach to learning, including asking questions, seeking guidance, and applying feedback. Our team offers collaboration and mentorship as you build proficiency in general medicine, canine and feline dentistry, and routine soft tissue surgery. Interest in exotic pet care is welcomed, and experience with exotic pet dentistry is a plus.
What to Expect
- A schedule that respects your time. Work 30–40 hours per week across 4 days, with a Saturday rotation and no on-call responsibilities. Our last appointment of the day is at 5:00pm, with no expectation to stay late. Doctor appointments are scheduled in 20- to 30-minute blocks, and a daily lunch break is scheduled from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. Major holidays are off.
- A collaborative, well-supported team. With a 2.5-to-1 staff-to-doctor ratio, you will work alongside licensed veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, client service representatives, and kennel staff who help support patient care and daily hospital operations.
- A varied caseload. Provide preventive care, medical workups, dentistry, and soft tissue surgery for small animal patients, with opportunities to care for exotic pets. Our team also has an interest in behavior and provides care for wildlife. Urgent and emergency visits for established clients are accommodated when time and doctor availability allow.
- The tools to support your medicine. Our hospital features four exam rooms, two surgical suites, in-house IDEXX laboratory capabilities, digital radiography, digital dental radiography, ultrasound, and EKG equipment. We use Impromed practice management software.
- Mentorship for a strong start. Develop your clinical skills alongside experienced colleagues who value case discussions, questions, and shared learning. We welcome new graduates who take initiative, communicate their thought process, recognize when they need support, and put feedback into practice. You will be encouraged to take increasing ownership of your cases as your skills and clinical judgment grow.
- Access to additional expertise. A traveling specialist ultrasonographer is available for more complicated workups, and nearby specialty and emergency hospitals provide referral options when patients need advanced care.
- A thoughtful approach to patient comfort. Our team incorporates selected Fear Free handling techniques to help reduce stress during visits.
- An inclusive workplace where your voice matters. We consider the needs of patients, clients, and staff when developing protocols and making practice decisions. Kindness, communication, and a team-first attitude are central to how we work together.

About this role
Suffield Veterinary Hospital, an established five-doctor practice in Connecticut, is looking for a veterinarian who values both clinical variety and work-life balance. You'd provide general medical care, dentistry, and soft tissue surgery for dogs, cats, and exotic pets in a setting where colleagues bring specialized interests in behavior, exotics, and dentistry. The practice emphasizes collaborative decision-making and incorporates Fear Free techniques, so this role suits someone who enjoys building client relationships and working as part of a supported team.
The schedule is structured around your time: 30–40 hours per week across four days with a Saturday rotation, no on-call duties, and appointments capped at 20–30 minutes with a guaranteed lunch break. You'll have access to modern equipment including digital radiography, ultrasound, and in-house lab capabilities, plus a traveling ultrasonographer and nearby specialty hospitals for complex cases. The compensation package includes a base salary of $130,000–$150,000, a sign-on bonus, ProSal with no negative accrual, health and dental coverage, continuing education support, and a pathway to partnership through Veterinary Practice Partners.
This role is best suited to someone comfortable with routine dentistry and general surgery who wants to practice quality medicine without the pressure of extended hours or emergency on-call responsibilities. Connecticut licensure is required; exotic experience is valued but not essential.
