About this role

DLR Group's Mechanical Engineering Internship offers a full-time, paid summer experience (May 18–August 6, 2027) working within an integrated design firm's Southwest region, based in either Denver or Phoenix. You'll join their Emerging Professional Experience (EPX) Program, which pairs hands-on project work with structured mentorship and weekly learning sessions covering design culture, sustainability, technology, and career development. This is a genuine introduction to how multidisciplinary teams collaborate on real building projects, not a routine administrative placement.

Your day-to-day work will center on mechanical systems design for new construction and renovations. You'll support licensed engineers in developing HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection designs using Revit, attend design coordination meetings across disciplines, review construction documents, and potentially visit active job sites. The role expects you to move from early-stage concepts through to construction administration, giving you exposure to the full design lifecycle rather than isolated tasks.

To apply, you need at least one year completed in an ABET-accredited Mechanical or Architectural Engineering program and some experience or genuine interest in BIM workflows—particularly Revit MEP. The position pays $20–$26 per hour depending on location, experience, and skills. DLR Group is 100% employee-owned and emphasizes collaboration and environmental stewardship, so the culture values both technical contribution and broader thinking about design's impact. Note that this requires in-person attendance in Denver or Phoenix; it is not remote.
