Description

About Pinterest:

Millions of people around the world come to our platform to find creative ideas, dream about new possibilities and plan for memories that will last a lifetime. At Pinterest, we’re on a mission to bring everyone the inspiration to create a life they love, and that starts with the people behind the product.

Discover a career where you ignite innovation for millions, transform passion into growth opportunities, celebrate each other’s unique experiences and embrace the flexibility to do your best work. Creating a career you love? It’s Possible.

At Pinterest, AI isn't just a feature, it's a powerful partner that augments our creativity and amplifies our impact, and we’re looking for candidates who are excited to be a part of that. To get a complete picture of your experience and abilities, we’ll explore your foundational skills and how you collaborate with AI.

Through our interview process, what matters most is that you can always explain your approach, showing us not just what you know, but how you think. You can read more about our AI interview philosophy and how we use AI in our recruiting process here.

We’re looking for Data Science interns to help evolve and shape the future of our product -- inspiring Pinners and connecting them with actionable content, understanding advertisers and measuring the value Pinterest provides to them, and enabling our employees to evaluate potential product changes faster than ever before. You’ll apply quantitative analysis, statistical techniques, modeling and data mining while working cross-functionally with engineering and product partners.

The results of your work will influence the team roadmap, identify actionable product opportunities, refine our experimentation platform, and drive key initiatives, turning your insights and analyses into real-world products.

Note to applicants:

By applying to this role, you will be considered for multiple intern roles open across our various DS teams. Please only apply once within the USA or Canada as multiple applications may delay our recruitment process.

Internships are 12 weeks paid, with fixed start dates in May or June to accommodate varying school calendars. Depending on the team, our summer internships will be located either remote or hybrid in San Francisco, Palo Alto, New York or Seattle offices.

We offer 2 internship start dates:

  • May 17, 2027 - August 6, 2027
  • June 14, 2027 - September 3, 2027

What you’ll do:

  • Contribute to our product roadmap and mission - to bring everyone the inspiration to create a life they love - using data and exploratory analysis to understand user behavior and trends, and identify opportunities for product innovation.
  • Design and implement core metrics that guide the team efforts and help design and evaluate A/B experiments that drive these metrics.
  • Explore alternative experimentation techniques to help internal teams evaluate their ideas faster.
  • Work cross-functionally to build and communicate key insights, and collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, designers, and researchers to help build the next experiences on Pinterest.

What we’re looking for:

  • Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, applied sciences, computer science or related field.
  • Ability to manipulate large data sets with high dimensionality and complexity; fluency in SQL and a scripting language (Python or R)
  • Experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches including in the fields of Machine Learning, Statistical Modeling, Forecasting, Econometrics or other related fields
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain learnings to both technical and non-technical partners
  • Ability to connect data analysis to real business problems, in order to impact business performance.
  • Strong critical thinking when working with AI-generated suggestions, with a clear approach to validating correctness, performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Comfort iterating on prompts, refining workflows, and adapting AI-assisted approaches based on the problem, context, and constraints.

In-Office Requirement Statement:

  • We let the type of work you do guide the collaboration style. That means we’re not always working in an office, but we continue to gather for key moments of collaboration and connection
  • This role may require you to be located near an office for in-person collaboration, and therefore may need to be located a commutable distance from one of our Pinterest offices.

At Pinterest we believe the workplace should be equitable, inclusive, and inspiring for every employee. In an effort to provide greater transparency, we are sharing the base salary range for this position. Final salary is based on a number of factors including location, travel, relevant prior experience, or particular skills and expertise.

About this role

Pinterest is seeking Master's-level data science interns to spend 12 weeks (May or June through August/September 2027) working on problems that directly shape the platform's product direction. You'll analyze user behavior, design metrics, and evaluate experiments that influence how millions of people discover ideas and inspiration. The work spans understanding Pinner engagement, measuring advertiser value, and helping internal teams test product changes faster—all in close collaboration with product, engineering, design, and research teams across hybrid or remote arrangements in San Francisco, Palo Alto, New York, or Seattle.

The role expects strong technical fundamentals: you'll need fluency in SQL and Python or R to manipulate complex, high-dimensional datasets, plus demonstrated experience with machine learning, statistical modeling, forecasting, or econometrics. Beyond technical chops, you should be comfortable explaining findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and connecting data insights to real business outcomes. Pinterest emphasizes critical thinking around AI-assisted work—validating correctness, performance, and security while iterating on prompts and workflows as needed.

This internship suits candidates currently in a Master's program in statistics, mathematics, economics, computer science, or a related field who want hands-on experience turning analysis into product impact. The $11,000 monthly stipend covers a 12-week paid internship. Apply only once, as you'll be considered for multiple data science teams across the company.
