About this role
W.E. O'Neil Construction is seeking a Project Director to oversee multiple construction projects across the Phoenix market, managing both project delivery and the people leading that work. Based in the field rather than at a desk, you'll move between jobsites, client meetings, and team huddles while holding accountability for safety, quality, schedule, financial performance, and client satisfaction. This is a genuine senior leadership role with influence over project strategy, client relationships, and the operational leaders you develop—not a project execution position.
The ideal candidate brings 15+ years of progressively responsible construction experience, including success with large or complex projects and client relationships. You'll need a bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or equivalent experience, along with expert-level knowledge of project delivery methods, risk management, scheduling, procurement, and construction operations. Strong business judgment, financial acumen, and the ability to juggle multiple competing priorities are essential, as is the skill to mentor project managers and support succession planning across the organization.
This role offers real scope: you'll guide major pursuits and preconstruction efforts, resolve complex operational and contractual challenges, and represent W.E. O'Neil at the client and industry level. The company is 100% employee-owned with roots dating to 1925, offering competitive compensation ($175,000–$195,000), a full benefits package including bonus, 401(k) match, and student debt assistance, plus the direct stake that comes with ESOP ownership. The position reports to the Project Executive or VP of Operations and is based in Phoenix, Arizona, requiring in-office presence.
