About this role
At Toast, you'd be leading the technical vision for the Scheduling product within the Team Management Suite—software that helps restaurant owners balance labor costs, employee preferences, and guest satisfaction. This is a staff-level role where you'd work across the full stack, translating business ambiguity into scalable, production-ready solutions while mentoring other engineers and shaping product direction alongside designers and product managers.
The role demands 8+ years of backend or full-stack experience, with solid proficiency in modern API design (TypeScript, REST, GraphQL) and databases like PostgreSQL or DynamoDB. You'll need the rare combination of being able to whiteboard high-level architecture while staying hands-on with code execution and performance. Strong communication matters here—you'll articulate technical complexity to both peers and product leadership, and you should genuinely enjoy mentoring and raising the technical bar across teams.
This suits someone who thrives in collaborative environments, works comfortably with ambiguity, and ships incrementally. You'll be hybrid-based in Dublin, and Toast emphasizes customer empathy as core to the role—the goal is building features that actually improve how restaurants and their teams operate. If you're energized by meaningful impact in a growing company and want to lead without leaving the code behind, this is worth a close look.
