About this role

Ascension's family medicine program in Chicago seeks a core faculty physician to lead clinical teaching and scholarly work within an established residency. The role balances direct patient care—roughly 12 hours weekly in clinic—with substantial resident precepting and program administration. You would work across inpatient and outpatient settings, supervise residents on hospital rounds one week per six, and take weekend call approximately one weekend per six. The program is actively expanding obstetric training and pursuing formal osteopathic recognition, making this especially suited to physicians with interests in either area.

This is fundamentally an educational leadership position. Beyond patient care and precepting, you'll participate in curriculum development, resident evaluation against ACGME competencies, and scholarly activity. The structured 40-hour weekly schedule allocates time explicitly for these functions. Physicians with three or more years of GME experience may be considered for Associate Program Director responsibilities. You must be MD or DO, board certified or eligible, and eligible for Illinois licensure and DEA registration.

The position offers the stability of a large nonprofit Catholic health system with local autonomy and a collaborative, mission-centered culture. Saint Joseph Hospital is a 361-bed Level II trauma center integrated into Ascension's national referral network.
