About this role
Ascension's Milwaukee network is building a new internal medicine residency program and seeking a Chief Resident to help establish its foundation. You would shape the ambulatory clinical curriculum, lead educational initiatives across multiple training settings, and work directly with program leadership to meet ACGME standards while maintaining the operational and structural framework of the training site. This is a chance to influence how the program develops from the ground up.
The role balances administrative leadership with direct clinical work. You'll mentor residents in the clinic while managing your own longitudinal patient panel, modeling excellent diagnostic and interpersonal skills. You'll also participate in scholarly activities and research alongside your teaching responsibilities. The position requires an MD or DO with Wisconsin medical licensure (or ability to obtain it before your start date) and AHA or Red Cross Advanced Life Support certification.
Milwaukee offers genuine quality-of-life advantages—Lake Michigan access, major sports and cultural institutions, Summerfest, and strong schools and neighborhoods. Ascension itself emphasizes clinician-led culture, clear career advancement pathways, and mission-centered care across its national network of nearly 2,000 sites. The Milwaukee hospitals you'd join include seven owned facilities with recognized service lines in cardiology, neuroscience, oncology, and behavioral health.
