About this role

Ascension's Nashville surgical center is seeking a Registered Nurse Surgical First Assistant for a temporary position on its operating room team. You would work directly with surgeons to prepare surgical suites, position patients safely for procedures, and manage the operative field through retraction, suctioning, irrigation, and hemostasis techniques. The role also includes assisting with wound closure, dressing application, and drainage system management—core responsibilities that require both technical skill and close collaboration with the surgical team.

To qualify, you'll need an active RN license from Tennessee or a compact state, BLS certification obtained within 30 days of your start date, and ALS certification within 180 days. While not required, holding a Surgical Assistant credential from NBSTSA or an OR-specialty certification from CCI would strengthen your candidacy. This is a hands-on surgical position suited to nurses with operating room experience who are comfortable in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment and want to deepen their expertise in surgical assistance.
