About this role
Ascension's float pool surgical first assistant role in Nashville puts you at the center of the operating room across multiple specialties. You'll provide direct surgical assistance during complex procedures—managing tissue, retraction, and suctioning—while also owning the operational side of OR management, from customizing suites to surgeon specifications to executing efficient turnarounds between cases. Patient positioning, equipment stabilization, and maintaining optimal surgical exposure are core to keeping both the surgical team and patient outcomes on track.
The position requires current CFSA certification (from NBSTSA, ABSA, or NCCSA) and BLS certification within your first month. You'll need either a high school diploma plus two years of relevant experience, an associate's or technical degree, or four years of direct surgical assisting background. The float pool structure means flexibility is essential—you'll move between different surgical specialties, so experience with spine, joints, cardiac, plastics, robotics, general, or gynecological surgery is valued. This is a full-time, in-office role at a large nonprofit health system known for supporting its workforce.
