About this role

Ascension's cardiothoracic stepdown unit in Indianapolis is a 48-bed specialized progressive care setting where you would manage complex post-operative patients recovering from major cardiovascular and thoracic procedures. The patient population includes transplant recipients, CABG and VAD patients, those recovering from peripheral vascular interventions and renal transplants, and thoracic surgery patients who have undergone VATS, robotic, or resection procedures. You would work with a 1:3 to 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio supported by Patient Care Technicians, meaning the acuity and complexity of care is substantial but structured with team support.

This role requires a current Indiana RN license and BLS certification (to be obtained within 30 days of hire if not already held). A nursing diploma or degree from an accredited program is the baseline education requirement, and prior hospital experience is preferred but not mandatory. If you have cardiothoracic or progressive care experience, that background would be valuable; if you're transitioning into this specialty, Ascension's size and resources as a leading nonprofit health system suggest structured support for that transition. The full-time, in-office position is part of a Catholic health system known for prioritizing associate development and workplace culture.
