About this role
Ascension's hospital-based teaching role puts you at the intersection of healthcare and education, working with students whose schooling has been interrupted by medical treatment or recovery. You would design individualized instruction and academic resources that keep these students progressing toward their educational goals while accommodating their medical and developmental circumstances. The work involves creating custom lesson plans, monitoring academic performance, and adjusting your approach as students' needs evolve.
Much of the role centers on coordination and communication. You would act as the main bridge between hospital care teams, school administrators, and community teachers, ensuring that academic expectations align across these different environments. You would also lead the transition planning that helps students reintegrate into their regular classrooms once they're ready to return, making that shift as smooth and confident as possible.
To qualify, you need either a teaching license (preferred), a high school diploma or equivalent plus two years of relevant experience, an associate's or bachelor's degree, or four years of applicable job-specific experience. This is a full-time, in-office position based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, within Ascension's nonprofit Catholic health system.
