About this role

Leading clinical operations in a high-acuity emergency department requires balancing immediate patient care demands with strategic oversight of your nursing team. At Ascension's Austin location, you'd manage shift workflows across specialty units, make real-time decisions about patient assignments and resource allocation, and serve as the clinical problem-solver when care concerns or staffing gaps emerge. This role demands independent judgment—you'll prioritize competing demands, navigate physician dynamics, and adapt quickly as patient acuity and census shift throughout your shift.

The position suits experienced emergency nurses ready to step into leadership. You'll need an active Texas RN license and BLS certification (required within 30 days of hire), plus at least one year of ED-specific experience. Preference goes to candidates with two years of ED background and prior leadership experience, though the core requirement is that clinical foundation. Your responsibilities span talent development—contributing to hiring, education, and performance reviews—and the operational side of keeping a specialty unit running: securing supplies, managing productivity metrics, and resolving variances.

Ascension is a large nonprofit Catholic health system with 99,000+ associates. They emphasize an inclusive workplace culture and are recognized as a military-friendly employer and a top healthcare workplace.
