About this role
Ascension's multispecialty med-surg nursing role in Indianapolis places you on a General Internal Medicine unit where you'll manage patients with serious, overlapping conditions—sepsis alongside renal failure, COPD with heart failure, addiction paired with acute infection. This isn't routine floor nursing; the complexity demands strong clinical judgment and the ability to recognize when a patient is deteriorating across multiple body systems. You'll work within a teaching environment supported by internal medicine physicians and subspecialists, meaning consultation and collaborative learning are built into the daily work.
The role emphasizes continuity of care and communication across disciplines. You'll coordinate regularly with case managers, social workers, pharmacists, and therapists to move patients smoothly through acute phases and into appropriate next levels of care. This requires both clinical skill and interpersonal effectiveness—the ability to synthesize information, advocate for patients, and work as part of a larger care team rather than in isolation.
You'll need an active RN license from Indiana and BLS certification (obtained within 30 days of hire if not already current). Ascension is a large nonprofit Catholic health system with established workplace recognition and a stated commitment to inclusive hiring. This is a full-time, in-person position in Indianapolis.
