About this role

Ascension's Assistant Director of Nursing role in Chicago combines direct clinical work with operational leadership in a skilled nursing setting. You'll split your time between the floor—providing hands-on care and modeling best practices—and administrative responsibilities that keep the unit running smoothly. This includes managing regulatory compliance with CMS and state requirements, overseeing quality audits, and coordinating admissions, discharges, and interdisciplinary care planning.

The position requires building and maintaining a strong nursing team through hiring, scheduling, staff development, and ongoing coaching. You'll need at least five years of nursing experience and two years in a leadership or management role, though the organization prefers candidates with ten years of clinical experience and five years in management. A current RN license and nursing diploma are required; BLS certification is preferred.
