About this role
Supporting telecommunications infrastructure projects at Olsson means translating field data, client requirements, and engineering markups into precise CAD deliverables. You'll work within the Telecom BAU and Long-Haul group preparing fiber optic design plans, permit exhibits, and engineering drawings—collaborating closely with engineers, project managers, and permitting staff to move projects from concept through agency approval. The work requires strong attention to detail, familiarity with AutoCAD, and the ability to incorporate GIS/KMZ files, utility records, and survey data into accurate plan sets that meet both client and Olsson standards.
This role suits someone with 1–3 years of CAD experience who is organized, communicates clearly, and takes ownership of their work. You should be comfortable reading and interpreting technical markups and engineering data, and ideally have some exposure to GIS software (ESRI products preferred) and tools like Bluebeam or Smartsheet. An associate degree in a related field is preferred but equivalent experience counts. Beyond technical skills, Olsson values collaborative team members who are genuinely interested in developing a career in telecom design and who want their work to have a positive impact.
The position is full-time and based in Des Moines, Iowa, with an in-office work arrangement. Olsson offers a competitive 401(k) match, traditional benefits including health care and paid time off, a wellness program, and the possibility of flexible work arrangements as you grow with the firm.
