About this role
Ascension's pediatric acute care nursing role on the 3rd and 4th floor units in Indianapolis involves direct clinical management of hospitalized children, from routine vital sign monitoring and assessments to complex interventions like chemotherapy administration, central line care, and tracheostomy management. You'll handle medication delivery, phlebotomy, and specialized procedures while maintaining clear communication with families about their child's care plan and advocating for patient-centered approaches throughout your shift.
Beyond bedside care, you'll coordinate admissions, discharges, and daily workflow across your unit, collaborate with physicians and specialist teams on clinical decisions, and respond to rapid response situations. The role also includes orienting and precepting new nursing staff, so you'll be expected to mentor colleagues as part of your broader team responsibilities.
To qualify, you need an Indiana RN license in hand before your start date and BLS certification within your first month. A nursing diploma or degree from an accredited program is required. Prior experience working with pediatric patients is preferred but not mandatory.
