About this role
Ascension's Registered Nurse First Assist role in Austin is a temporary, in-office position supporting surgical teams in the operating room. You would work directly with surgeons before, during, and after procedures—positioning patients safely, maintaining clear visualization of the surgical site through tissue management and fluid control, managing bleeding, and assisting with wound closure and drainage placement. This is hands-on clinical work requiring both technical precision and the ability to anticipate surgeon needs in a fast-paced environment.
To qualify, you must hold an active Texas RN license and obtain BLS certification within 30 days of your start date and Advanced Life Support within 180 days. RNFA (Registered Nurse First Assistant) certification is required by Ascension, and OR nursing certification through CCI is preferred. You'll need either a nursing diploma or degree from an accredited program. This role suits experienced nurses with operating room background who are ready to deepen their surgical support skills and work within a large nonprofit Catholic health system known for supporting its workforce.
