About this role
Ascension's Burn ICU in Indianapolis seeks a clinical leader ready to manage the operational and human dimensions of a specialized intensive care unit. You would coordinate daily shift staffing and resource allocation for burn and critical care patients, make independent decisions about assignment distribution and productivity, and serve as the clinical authority directing nursing teams through complex daily dynamics. This role demands someone comfortable with rapid prioritization and the ability to justify operational decisions in a high-acuity environment.
The position emphasizes mentorship and staff development alongside direct patient care oversight. You would evaluate nursing associates on specialized burn protocols, contribute to hiring and training decisions, and handle patient care complaints through formal channels—responsibilities that require both clinical expertise and interpersonal skill in a sensitive ICU setting. Leadership experience is essential; the role expects you to have worked previously as a charge nurse, preceptor, or in a supervisory capacity, ideally within a burn unit specifically.
To qualify, you need an Indiana RN license before your start date, BLS certification within 30 days of hire, and at least one year of burn ICU experience. A BSN and three or more years in critical care nursing are strongly preferred, as is familiarity with infection control and wound care. Advanced certifications in pediatric or neonatal resuscitation are valued but not required. This is a full-time, in-office role within a large nonprofit Catholic health system.
