About this role
Leading a pediatric critical care unit at Ascension's Austin location means balancing clinical excellence with operational oversight. You'll manage nursing staff during shifts, make real-time decisions about patient assignments and care priorities, and handle the interpersonal dynamics between clinical teams and physicians. Beyond direct patient care, you'll own resource coordination—ensuring equipment and supplies are available when needed—and take responsibility for budget and staffing accountability.
The role also centers on people development. You'll guide shift-based education, contribute to hiring and performance evaluations, and help shape how your unit's nursing team grows. This is a full-time, in-office position that requires a Texas RN license before your start date and BLS certification within your first month. You'll need at least one year of nursing experience in a pediatric critical care setting, though leadership experience in that environment is preferred rather than required.
This role suits a nurse who's comfortable with both clinical judgment and administrative responsibility, and who wants to influence unit culture and operations alongside direct care leadership.
