About this role

Ascension's Patient Care Technician role in Chicago places you directly in patient care delivery, supporting daily living activities, mobility, and positioning while maintaining a safe clinical environment. You'll observe and report on patients' physical, mental, and emotional status to nursing staff, ensuring documentation is accurate and care adjustments happen promptly. This is hands-on work that requires both clinical knowledge and genuine attention to patient comfort and dignity.

The position requires prior healthcare credentials—either an EMT certification, practical or vocational nursing license, or nurse aide certification from Illinois, or completion of at least one semester of medical surgical nursing. You'll need BLS certification within your first month. Most importantly, the role strongly prefers candidates with one year of hospital experience, which signals that Ascension is looking for someone already familiar with the pace and protocols of an inpatient setting rather than someone entirely new to healthcare.

This full-time, in-office role suits someone with a healthcare foundation who's ready to work directly with patients in a structured clinical environment. If you hold the required credentials and have hospital experience, you'd be joining a large nonprofit health system with an established culture around service and professional development.
