About this role
Ascension is launching a new wound care program at Saint Joseph Hospital Chicago and seeking a Registered Nurse to serve as its clinical Subject Matter Expert. You would establish standardized protocols, lead quality improvement work aimed at reducing readmissions, and train floor nurses across units in advanced wound assessment, staging, dressing selection, and prevention strategies. The role begins with hands-on clinical delivery during program rollout, then transitions toward complex consultation, interdisciplinary coordination with physicians and case management, and overall program oversight.
Beyond clinical leadership, you'll manage comprehensive patient care plans and discharge planning, developing education materials to support patients' transitions to post-acute settings and self-care. This is a full-time, in-office position that requires an Illinois nursing license prior to hire, BLS certification within 30 days of start, and ideally a wound care certification from NAWCCB. Two years of wound care experience is preferred. The role suits an experienced wound care nurse ready to build expertise across a hospital system and shape how care is delivered at scale.
