Team mission
Within Growth Data Engineering - part of the strategic Flywheel Data Engineering group - our mission is to build the trusted data foundations and self-serve capabilities for the customer growth side of our marketplace. We ingest, integrate, and structure critical internal and external datasets into reliable tables, metrics, and data products that help GetYourGuide acquire and retain our customers. We achieve this through close partnership with Growth Analytics and Marketing teams, enabling teams to move faster with confidence.
Your mission
- Own the data end-to-end: Deliver reliable, high-quality data solutions that enable growth decision-making across acquisition, conversion, engagement, and retention.
- Be a trusted thought partner: Work closely with Marketing, Analytics and Engineering to translate business needs into delivered outcomes and drive adoption of trusted, self-serve data capabilities.
- Drive technical excellence in the stack: Lead system design for new capabilities and continuously evolve what's already in production — architecture, testing, observability, performance, and cost efficiency — with a bias toward simplicity, reusability, and maintainability.
- Strong operational mindset: Maintain a sustainable balance between operational responsibilities and building new solutions, using team SLOs as an input to prioritize improvements.
- Level up the team and shape how we build: Raise the engineering bar through strong code reviews, design input, and hands-on support, and influence standards and technology choices with a focus on simplicity, reusability, and maintainability.
Your toolkit
- Experience: 5+ years in a relevant data role. You've built and owned a data domain end-to-end — from source integration through to the models and metrics that downstream teams depend on
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, able to explain technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Data engineering depth: Expertise in SQL & Python, building robust data pipelines and data models, and operating data at scale in warehouses/lakes (e.g., Delta, Snowflake, PostgreSQL/MySQL) with strong focus on data quality, accuracy, and reliability. Strong dbt proficiency and familiarity with Spark.
- Reporting & insights: Solid understanding of data visualization and enablement through tools like Looker/Tableau and notebooks (e.g., Jupyter).
- Business and stakeholder focus: Able to prioritize effectively, manage stakeholders, and translate business needs into clear technical plans and delivered outcomes.
- Autonomy & ownership: Proactive, customer-oriented, and comfortable owning projects end-to-end, balancing system health (monitoring, performance, cost) with new delivery.
- Team impact: Collaborative and mentoring-minded, enjoys sharing knowledge, raising standards through reviews, and helping the team succeed.
- AI-first mindset: Uses modern AI tools to boost productivity and accelerate solving business needs - while maintaining strong standards for quality, security, and governance
Extras that give you an edge
- Growth-domain impact: You’ve delivered data products in growth and marketing adjacent domains (e.g., Retention, Channel Attribution, Brand, CRM) and thrive in complex, multi-stakeholder environments (Marketing, PMs, Analytics, Engineering).
- Software engineering craft: You are comfortable with Java/Scala, and you value clean code, solid testing habits, and pragmatic automation.
- AI & data intelligence impact: You've delivered AI capabilities — from LLM-powered discovery to automated insight generation, - including natural-language data access and semantic layer solution — that raises how quickly teams get to answers, and you can tell a durable use case from a demo.
How we’ll make your career journey extraordinary

About this role
GetYourGuide's Growth Data Engineering team is looking for a senior engineer to own data solutions end-to-end across the customer acquisition, conversion, engagement, and retention lifecycle. You'd work within the Flywheel Data Engineering group, partnering closely with Marketing, Analytics, and Engineering to translate business needs into reliable, self-serve data capabilities that help the marketplace scale. The role balances operational stewardship—maintaining system health, performance, and cost efficiency—with designing and building new data products that teams depend on.
You'll need at least five years of hands-on data engineering experience, with proven depth in SQL, Python, dbt, and operating data at scale in platforms like Snowflake or Delta Lake. Strong communication skills matter here; you'll explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and drive adoption of data solutions. Beyond core competencies, the team values autonomy, collaborative mentoring, and a pragmatic approach to using modern AI tools to accelerate delivery while maintaining quality standards.
The position is based in Berlin with a hybrid arrangement—three days in office, two optional remote days—and includes professional development budgets, quarterly team events, and flexibility to work remotely for 30 days annually. Experience in growth and marketing domains, software engineering rigor, or AI-driven data capabilities would strengthen your candidacy.
