About this role
Leading the electrical engineering team at Astranis means owning the compute, networking, and power systems that make advanced satellites function in geosynchronous orbit. You'll manage a team of junior and senior engineers while driving the full lifecycle of hardware development—from architecture and component selection through circuit board design, implementation, verification, and in-flight support. This role demands hands-on technical depth alongside leadership: you'll design and debug systems yourself, collaborate across disciplines to define requirements, manage supplier relationships, and keep hardware development synchronized with overall program schedules.
The ideal candidate brings at least five years of board-level electronics design experience in fast-paced product environments, with demonstrated strength in analog and mixed-signal circuits. You'll need proven ability to build and lead engineering teams, clear communication across disciplines, and a track record of taking hardware from concept to production. Experience with signal conditioning, sensors, actuators, FPGAs, microcontrollers, and communication protocols is valuable; radiation effects and environmental testing knowledge are bonuses. U.S. citizenship or green card status is required due to export regulations on space technology.
Astranis offers a base salary of $160,000 to $210,000 plus equity, comprehensive healthcare, 401(k) matching, flexible PTO, and on-site meals. The company operates from a 153,000 sq. ft. headquarters in Northern California with five satellites already on orbit and over $1 billion in commercial contracts in its backlog. This is a full-time, in-office position in San Francisco.
