About this role
Astranis is hiring an Automation & Controls Engineering Intern for summer 2027 to support the design and build of automated test systems that validate satellite hardware before it reaches orbit. You'll work hands-on with electrical control systems, sensors, data acquisition equipment, safety interlocks, and test automation software—bridging hardware and software in a real operational environment. This is a lab-based role where you'll collaborate across multiple engineering disciplines to develop infrastructure that enables safe, repeatable spacecraft testing.
The ideal candidate is pursuing a degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, computer science, or related field, with practical experience in circuits, instrumentation, embedded systems, PLCs, or control systems. You'll need solid Python skills and comfort working in a factory or lab setting with hands-on hardware tasks. The position is based in San Francisco and requires U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or protected status due to space technology export regulations.
This internship pays $29 per hour and offers direct exposure to satellite operations at a company with five spacecraft on orbit and over $1 billion in commercial contracts. You'll work alongside experienced engineers from prototype through commissioning and operational support—practical experience that matters in aerospace and controls engineering.
