About this role

Muon Space's thermal engineering internship puts you directly on the team responsible for keeping satellites safe and performing well in orbit. You'll own pieces of real thermal work—from designing and testing hardware to running analysis—on actual flight systems that will launch in Muon's next generation of LEO satellites. The role spans the full thermal engineering lifecycle, so you'll gain hands-on experience across design, testing, and problem-solving in a startup where your contributions have immediate, visible impact.

The position calls for coursework or experience in thermodynamics, numerical analysis, finite elements, or related areas, plus practical skills in test planning, analysis tools, and technical communication. A portfolio showing thermal design or test work is expected. Previous internship experience and familiarity with tools like Thermal Desktop are valued, though not required. You'll work full-time and on-site in San Jose from May through September, earning $40–50 per hour depending on your degree level, with mentorship from experienced aerospace professionals.

This is a good fit if you're pursuing aerospace or mechanical engineering and want substantive thermal systems experience on real hardware before graduation. Note that the role requires U.S. person status or export authorization eligibility due to controlled technology access.
