About this role
Kelso Building Services is seeking an experienced commercial HVAC technician to lead the commissioning and start-up phase of new installations across the Boston area. Rather than routine service calls, you'd own the critical handoff between installation and operation—verifying that RTUs, chillers, VRF systems, boilers, and other equipment meet specifications, perform to design intent, and are ready for customer turnover. This means coordinating with install crews, controls technicians, TAB contractors, and general contractors to schedule and execute start-ups, then troubleshooting any mechanical, electrical, or controls issues that surface during functional testing.
You'll need at least five years of hands-on commercial HVAC experience with a solid track record starting up new equipment. Strong troubleshooting across refrigeration, electrical, gas heat, and controls is essential, as is the ability to read mechanical drawings and sequences of operation. EPA 608 certification and a valid driver's license are required; a state or local HVAC license, manufacturer certifications in chillers or VRF, and familiarity with building automation systems are valued additions. You'll carry your own hand tools and be comfortable with test instruments, combustion analyzers, and airflow measurement.
The role offers competitive pay up to $42 per hour, medical and dental coverage, a 401(k) match, paid time off, a company vehicle and fuel card, and ongoing training opportunities. If you take pride in getting new systems right the first time and want to grow into a lead or supervisory position, this is a solid fit.
