About this role

Working as an intern in IMA's Portland office, you'd be embedded with an Account Executive managing a book of mid-market or emerging commercial insurance clients. Day-to-day, you'd handle the operational backbone of account management: preparing renewal materials, coordinating with underwriters and carriers, processing quotes and policies, managing certificates of insurance, and resolving coverage issues. You'd partner closely with your AE on client interactions and program design, gradually building the ability to anticipate client needs through carrier and industry communications.

This role demands someone with at least three years of P&C experience and a solid grasp of insurance account management fundamentals—you'll need to work independently within an AMS system while maintaining data accuracy, communicate clearly with both underwriters and clients, and juggle multiple tasks like premium allocations, endorsements, and policy audits. Proficiency in MS Office is essential, and a general insurance designation (or pursuit of one) is preferred. Travel up to 20 percent is expected depending on your book of business.

IMA is an independent, employee-owned firm recognized nationally for workplace culture and community involvement. While this is an internship role and therefore ineligible for the full benefits package, you'd be part of a team-oriented company that emphasizes professional development and has a track record of implementing associate ideas quickly.
