Description

Calling all trailblazers.

See things differently at capSpire: a global consulting and solutions company that solves difficult business and technology problems for commodity focused organizations. In other words, we do tech consulting for the industries that keep us all running.

A lot of companies say it. We mean it: capSpire is different. Rooted in the spirit of collaboration, we thrive on the smarts of our people and the dynamic we’ve cultivated. It’s the kind of energy that’s made us returning champions in the Great Place to Work arena, year after year. Because we’re a vendor-independent consultancy, you’ll be working with traditional technologies and leading-edge solutions for on premise and Cloud. Every step of the way, you’ll enjoy diverse projects, professional development and the autonomy to take charge of your own path forward.

Tell me about my job.

Better insights are in sight, and you’ll take an active role in leading the way. Your main role will be to analyze the system design and provide consulting support, but you’ll also gain insight into clients’ strategic business directions, issues, and project goals. Consider yourself a liaison between client/user-functionality and our developers – translating specific configuration needs into actionable tasks, all while critiquing business processes and objectives. As a Functional Consultant, your main goal is ensuring that the system is a helpful tool to support business objectives.

You’re an ideal candidate if:

  • You are looking for a career that combines business skills (i.e. accounting, finance or operations) with technology and engineering.
  • You enjoy building relationships and have the ability to communicate with both business and technical groups in unique client environments.
  • You don’t want to learn a skill and coast for the rest of your career. Here, you’ll be consistently challenged to build on your technical, business, system and market knowledge to create tailored, longstanding solutions.
  • You’re naturally collaborative, sharing knowledge and having open-minded discussions around better-way ideas to build quality enterprise solutions for our clients.
  • You are a self-driven person who relentlessly works on a challenge until it is complete – and wants to be on a team with others who share your drive.

The Non-Negotiables:

  • BS in Accounting, Supply Chain Management, Information Systems, Finance, Engineering or equivalent.
  • Ability to understand supply chain, commodity lifecycles, and financial systems and how they help solve complex business problems for specific markets.
  • Ability to validate software solutions to meet business needs and ensure quality implementation.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, plus the ability to think through complex scenarios.
  • Someone who is interested in learning different client scenarios and environments and wants to help each client with their unique business needs in E/CTRM.
  • Experience with training and enabling junior team members
  • Must be near one of our office locations -  Houston, TX

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with SQL
  • Experience with process mapping and/or process improvement
  • Understanding of software systems and agile project management, like SAP or Oracle

About the capSpire team:

To understand who our people are, you should first understand what they’re not: replaceable. Each member of the team is chosen carefully and with intention. We believe that finding the right fit is more important than a laundry list of credentials – and that people are people first, and titles second.

Because we hire the capSpire way, our team is certainly one of a kind. We’ve brought together incredible talent that regularly collaborates to create clean, fresh solutions. That effort has led to remarkable opportunities, including work with many Fortune 500 clients. We’ve found that the winning combination of exciting achievements, trust in one another and open communication lays the groundwork for long-lasting, successful careers. That, and the fact that we clap for each other at every opportunity.

Problem solvers, go-getters and charge-takers -  we (really) want to hear from you.

About this role

capSpire is seeking a Functional Consultant to join its Houston office and support clients in the energy and commodity trading sectors. In this role, you'll analyze system designs, translate business requirements into technical specifications, and act as a bridge between clients' operational teams and development staff. Your work will span supply chain, financial systems, and enterprise resource planning solutions, where you'll validate software implementations, critique business processes, and ensure technology directly supports client objectives.

The ideal candidate combines a degree in accounting, finance, supply chain management, information systems, or engineering with genuine curiosity about how business and technology intersect. You'll need to understand commodity lifecycles and financial systems deeply enough to solve complex problems, think critically through intricate scenarios, and communicate effectively with both business stakeholders and technical teams. Experience with SQL, process mapping, or enterprise platforms like SAP or Oracle is valued but not required; what matters more is your drive to continuously expand your knowledge and your ability to mentor junior team members as you grow.

This is a full-time, in-office position suited for someone who wants meaningful variety in their work rather than repetitive tasks. capSpire emphasizes collaboration, professional development, and autonomy—you'll own your career path while working on diverse projects for Fortune 500 clients. If you're self-driven, thrive on solving difficult problems, and want to build lasting expertise in functional consulting, this role offers the challenge and environment to do it.
