About this role
Astera Labs is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead validation strategy and execution for its next-generation AI connectivity products—silicon, boards, and systems that integrate CXL, Ethernet, NVLink, PCIe, and UALink technologies. You would own the full validation lifecycle: defining methodologies and coverage goals, architecting scalable lab automation and test frameworks, executing platform bring-up, driving root-cause analysis across hardware and software boundaries, and making clear release recommendations to cross-functional teams. This is a hands-on technical leadership role that combines deep debugging expertise with strategic influence across design, firmware, software, product, and customer organizations.
The ideal candidate brings 8–12 years of validation engineering experience in semiconductors, networking, or data center products, with proven skill in building validation plans, test automation (Python preferred), and lab instrumentation. You should be comfortable debugging at multiple layers—hardware, firmware, and software—and comfortable translating complex product requirements into measurable quality objectives and exit criteria. Experience with high-speed connectivity protocols, physical-layer fundamentals, and hyperscaler or ODM environments is valued. Beyond technical depth, this role requires the ability to mentor engineers, communicate tradeoffs clearly to stakeholders, and thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
Based in San Jose and full-time in-office, the position offers a salary range of $185,000 to $240,000 depending on experience and level, plus discretionary bonus and benefits eligibility.
