About this role

Burgess & Niple's Phoenix office is seeking a Traffic Civil Engineer Co-op to join their transportation team for the 2026–2027 academic year. You'll work part-time during fall and spring semesters, then transition to full-time for one additional semester, gaining hands-on experience across traffic design, capacity and safety analysis, and traffic modeling. Under the guidance of experienced engineers, you'll contribute to real projects for state DOTs and municipalities—from data collection and crash analysis to signing design and signal work—while learning industry-standard tools like MicroStation, AutoCAD, and BlueBeam.

This role suits current civil engineering undergraduates (ABET-accredited program, one year of coursework completed) who are genuinely interested in traffic engineering and ready to develop technical skills in a collaborative environment. You'll need proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly pick up design software; prior co-op experience is valued but not required. The position is based in-office in Phoenix with a typical Monday–Friday schedule of 30–40 hours per week. You'll be responsible for arranging your own housing and transportation, though parking is provided.
