About this role

Burgess & Niple's Phoenix office is looking for a civil engineering co-op student to gain hands-on experience in roadway design and transportation consulting. You'll work under the mentorship of experienced engineers on real projects for state DOTs and municipalities, contributing to tasks like geometric design, safety studies, multi-modal design, and the preparation of construction plans and cost estimates. The work will involve learning industry-standard software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, and PDF markup tools while supporting engineers through the full project lifecycle from scoping through final design.

This role suits current civil engineering undergraduates who have completed at least one year of coursework and have a genuine interest in transportation engineering. You should be comfortable with Microsoft Office and willing to quickly pick up specialized design software—prior experience with CAD or co-ops is helpful but not required. The position runs full-time during the spring semester, typically 30 to 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday in the Phoenix office. You'll need to arrange your own housing and transportation, though parking is provided.
