About this role

Working as a Gallery Assistant at David Zwirner means being the public face of a major international gallery representing seventy artists across five global locations. You'll spend your days greeting collectors, artists, and visitors; answering questions about exhibitions and the gallery's program; and creating the first impression that sets the tone for their experience. The role blends front-desk operations—managing phone calls, mail, and materials—with direct support to the Principal's office, where you'll help coordinate client viewings, prepare presentation materials, and assist with administrative logistics like calendar management and event coordination.

This position suits someone genuinely interested in contemporary art and the commercial gallery world who thrives in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment. You'll need strong interpersonal skills, the ability to multitask across competing priorities, and composure under pressure. While a bachelor's degree in Art History and prior gallery experience are preferred, the gallery explicitly welcomes candidates new to the field or transitioning careers, as long as you bring enthusiasm for learning and a collaborative attitude.

The role is full-time in New York, based Tuesday through Saturday during most of the year (Monday through Friday in summer), with hours from 9:45 AM to 6:15 PM plus occasional evening and event hours. The salary is $50,000 annually, paid hourly and overtime-eligible. Benefits include museum memberships, flexible commuter options, summer Fridays, generous PTO, health coverage, and a 401(k) with employer contributions.
