  • 2+ years of engineering management experience with direct reports and performance management responsibility
  • Experience managing distributed or nearshore/offshore engineering teams
  • Demonstrated ability to manage teams using agile methodologies, coaching teams and adapting practices rather than just following process
  • Genuine technical depth in at least one area relevant to platform or infrastructure engineering, sufficient to engage credibly in architecture and design discussions
  • Strong skills in agile delivery, people management, stakeholder communication, and data-driven team health assessment
  • Experience with Azure cloud services, CI/CD pipelines, and Azure DevOps or similar project management tooling
  • Demonstrated use or active adoption of AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, or similar)

Nice to have:

  • Player-coach profile, comfortable engaging directly with code or architecture alongside the team when needed
  • Experience with identity systems, authentication protocols (OAuth, SAML, OIDC), or security- adjacent platform work
  • Experience managing QA engineers or teams with embedded QA alongside development
  • Background in HCM, HR tech, or enterprise B2B SaaS
  • Capacity planning and roadmap shaping experience with product management

Job duties:

Team Management

  • Track sprint status, blockers, and performance, and flag risks early.
  • Lead ceremonies actively and address underperformance directly.
  • Report team health and delivery risks with data and business impact.

Work Management

  • Partner with the PM on planning and priorities based on real capacity.
  • Remove blockers and manage dependencies with DevOps, QA, and other teams.
  • Own sprint readouts with clear status, root causes, and mitigation plans.

Individual Management

  • Run regular 1:1s focused on growth and skill gaps.
  • Manage underperformance with data and a structured process.
  • Hire, onboard, and deliver timely performance reviews.

Technical & Business Leadership

  • Engage in architecture and design reviews with real technical depth.
  • Understand your teams' systems well enough to spot technical risk.
  • Drive meaningful adoption of AI-assisted and agentic coding tools.

About this role

Nexaminds is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead their internal developer platform team from their Mexico office. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires both strong people management and active technical contribution—you'll be running sprints, conducting architecture reviews, and writing code alongside your team rather than managing from the sidelines. The position demands someone with at least six years of software engineering experience and two years managing direct reports, with demonstrated depth in platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, or backend systems.

The role centers on balancing three interconnected responsibilities: ensuring team delivery through sprint tracking and risk management, removing technical and organizational blockers, and developing your engineers through regular feedback and performance management. You'll partner with product management on capacity planning, engage with other teams to resolve dependencies, and actively drive adoption of AI-assisted development tools across the organization. Technical credibility is essential—you need enough hands-on knowledge in your domain to spot architectural risks and participate meaningfully in design decisions.

This opportunity is restricted to Mexican citizens currently residing in Mexico. Nexaminds offers stock options, flexible hours, and remote work flexibility alongside standard benefits. The company emphasizes a collaborative, trust-based culture and provides mentorship and learning opportunities for growth.
