About this role
BGE, Inc. is hiring Rod and Instrument Technicians for its Houston survey operations, with two entry points depending on your background. The Rod Technician role requires only a high school diploma and willingness to work outdoors—no prior experience necessary. The Instrument Technician position asks for a year of land survey field experience and familiarity with equipment like tribrachs and tripods. Both positions involve supporting the Party Chief on boundary, topography, ALTA, right-of-way, and construction surveys for public and private clients.
The work is hands-on and physically demanding. You'll spend 8 to 10 hours a day outdoors, walking up to two miles, cutting brush, setting stakes, and handling surveying equipment. You need to be comfortable lifting 50 pounds and knowledgeable about safety and traffic control procedures on active job sites. This is a full-time, in-office role based in Houston.
BGE offers solid benefits for a field position: a 401(k) match of 100% up to 4% plus a 3% Safe Harbor contribution, medical/dental/vision coverage, nine paid holidays plus unlimited sick days, and two to four weeks of vacation depending on experience. The company also runs a mentorship program to help you develop skills and advance. This role suits someone ready to start or build a surveying career with a stable, nationwide firm that prioritizes safety and professional growth.
