About this role
Working as a mechanical intern at Cannondesign's Chicago office, you'd support licensed engineers on HVAC design and modeling across educational, healthcare, commercial, and science & technology projects. Your day-to-day work would involve designing ductwork and piping systems in Revit/BIM, assisting with construction drawings from early design through completion, reviewing shop drawing submittals, and occasionally visiting job sites to assess existing conditions and monitor progress. You'd also have room to suggest improvements to processes and coordination—the role values your input alongside your execution.
This position suits students pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in Engineering who have strong communication skills and ideally some experience with Revit MEP or similar design software. You'll work remotely but should be prepared for periodic on-site visits that involve physical walkthroughs. The internship pays $22.25 to $26.25 per hour and includes standard benefits like medical, dental, vision coverage, paid time off, and a 401k plan. For students who perform well, there's potential to transition into a full-time entry-level role after graduation.
