About this role

Woolpert's Indianapolis aviation team is looking for a civil engineering intern to spend the summer working on real airport infrastructure projects—taxiways, runways, hangars, and related facilities for clients like the FAA and state DOTs. You'd be embedded in a multidisciplinary group handling everything from initial planning through construction, using tools like AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bluebeam while supporting task leads on scope, budget, and schedule decisions. The role includes site visits to active projects and exposure to how licensed professionals approach complex aviation design problems.

This is a full-time, hybrid position (May–August, Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm) suited for civil engineering students at sophomore level or higher who want hands-on experience in a structured, supportive environment. You'll tackle real deliverables—calculations, drawings, cost estimates, and design plans—with enough independence to problem-solve while having access to mentorship from experienced staff. The pay is $23–27 per hour depending on your background.

You'll need current work authorization in the US and must be enrolled at an accredited university; Woolpert does not provide housing, relocation, or visa sponsorship for interns. Strong communication and time management skills matter, as does comfort working collaboratively across internal teams and external partners.
